Florence Nursing and Rehab Resident to Compete in Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant



Florence - Ms. Margaret Herston, age 80, has been selected as a top ten finalist for the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant to be held at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham - The Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham on Monday, July 28th, at 2:00pm. The winner of the pageant will serve as a spokesperson for nursing home residents and the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA).

Earlier this year, Ms. Herston earned the title of Ms. Florence Nursing & Rehab by competing in the facility's local pageant.  Florence Nursing & Rehab is a 147 bed skilled nursing facility.

At Florence Nursing & Rehab, Ms. Herston is a member of the Bell Choir and enjoys performing for others.  Staff members say she never meets a stranger and you'll often find her visiting with other residents.  She has four daughters, seven grandchildren, ninie great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ms. Herston and the other finalists were selected from a field of 58 contestants during preliminary judging in Montgomery.  The contestants are evaluated on their outlook on life, personality, poise and involvement in their individual nurisng homes.  This is their third year that a contestant has been choosen from Florence Nursing and Rehab Center to compete as a Top Ten Finalist in the pageant.  Last year, Ms. Ruth Alexander was cheered on by her family, friends, and caretakers as she competed in the pageant and won 4th place!

"The Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant is a celebration of life and our nursing home residents' contributions to their communities, "  ANHA Preseidnet, Frnak Brown said.  "Each of these contestants captures that spirit.  These ladies are wonderful ambassadors for their individual nursing home and Alabama's long term care profession."

Mr. Herston and the other finalistes will have individual interviews with the panel of celebrity judges on the monring of July 28th before competing on stage that afternoon.  All of the othe contestants in attendance will be a part of the Honor Court and will be individually recognized during the pageant.  Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
